Storytelling isn’t just for bedtimes and campfires: How to captivate the hearts and minds of employees

What if there was a way to captivate the hearts and minds of employees and increase their trust and engagement? Storytelling is a critical skill that does just that. There is a natural reluctance to tell stories for fear of not knowing where to find stories, how to tell them or not having something original to share. Some think stories are too soft for a business setting and they need to motivate changes through facts and figures. However, data doesn’t change behavior, emotions do…and you engage emotions through story. Storytelling helps develop leaders, shape organizational culture, and influence employees to action. This talk breaks down the neuroscience behind why we should leverage storytelling, where to find stories and provides a simple and memorable model for how to tell stories.

How is that story working out for you? How to identify and confront your limiting beliefs

At some point, most people encounter that voice in their head that takes up unnecessary real estate and fills it with limiting beliefs. Telling us we can’t do something. We shouldn’t or something. Or that isn’t the way we do things. These stories are just that: things we fabricate without solid data to back it up. Leaders need to watch for these in themselves and in their employees and change the story. Limiting beliefs prevent you from adopting a growth mindset and get in the way of accomplishing what is possible. This humorous talk uses a story of a vulnerable moment to illustrate the role limiting beliefs play in holding us back as leaders and teams.

Keynote and Workshop Objectives

  • Identify your own limiting beliefs

  • Identify the common limiting beliefs of leaders

  • Learn what to watch for to identify limiting beliefs on your team

  • Learn the role of trust and vulnerability in confronting limiting beliefs

  • Define techniques for confronting limiting beliefs

  • Practice techniques for confronting limiting beliefs (workshop only)

  • Write a new story: rewrite your limiting belief - or for your team (workshop only)

  • Define action plan (workshop only)
